Amazon Web Services Management

AmazonAWS

Our experience has been shaped by delivering cloud capabilities to a global publishing automation technology company with big - we mean real big - clients.   Rather than work with local data centers, we shifted to working mostly with Amazon Web Services, specifically the Amazon Elastic Computing Cloud.   While many companies use Amazon EC2 for product testing and temporary deployment, we've built out entire networks of servers delivering numerous production capabilities to a global work force.

Amazon EC2’s simple web service interface allows you to obtain and configure capacity with minimal friction. It provides you with complete control of your computing resources and lets you run on Amazon’s proven computing environment. Amazon EC2 reduces the time required to obtain and boot new server instances to minutes, allowing you to quickly scale capacity, both up and down, as your computing requirements change. Amazon EC2 changes the economics of computing by allowing you to pay only for capacity that you actually use.

Here are examples of specific types of activities our company has engaged with:

  • Amazon Storage Gateway planning, deployment, and management.
  • Data storage within the Amazon S3 system.
  • Deployment of Amazon EC2 machines, both Windows and Linux.
  • Configuration and deployment of Amazon VPC.
  • Amazon based Terminal Servers
  • Amazon based Active Directory Domain Controllers and Networks.
  • Amazon to site Virtual Private Networks
  • Amazon Security Group and Network Routing.
  • Amazon IAM Management and Authentication
  • Amazon snapshots, data backup, and recovery.

Legacy Application Sustainability

legacy-typeAmong the manu uses of Cloud Computing is the ability to virtualize legacy applications.  For example, leveraging Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud systems against outdated business management applications we can extend the life cycle of these products.   What we provide is deployment, management, and support for Windows (and Linux) Application Servers inside the AWS Elastic Compute Cloud.

We realize that the computing world is changing, and many new "Software as a Service" systems are emerging; they are often referred to as the "cloud".  Although the terminology is incorrect, the premise is not.  Our expectation is that one day proper solutions that serve the needs your business will be fully SaaS capable.  We can help move your business infrastructure forward while maintaining an environment until a suitable replacement is available.

Since we are an Amazon Solutions Consultant, we are using Amazon EC2/VPC to meet your needs.  Your investment is the time the systems are up plus reasonable consulting fees to help you accomplish the move.  Moverover,  we avoid three major pit-falls of building and running private clouds:

  1. We do not buy/lease hardware to power our clouds.  Data centers cost money - a lot of it.  Hosting is a volume business.  Companies that build their own hosted environments generally have two options: build it in their office or rent data-center space.  In each case, the operations are governed by the bottom line.  There are only a few companies with the assets, experience, and technology to host private clouds: one of them is Amazon.
  2. We do not purchase computing cloud power from resellers or middle-men.  Unless a company falls into the first point, they are likely reselling services.  Well, when you resell, each step along the way wants to make a profit.  Too many middle-men just leads to an overinflated price to the end user, you.  We go straight to the source: Amazon.
  3. Our cloud services do not create proprietary network. Instead, our customers own their private clouds.  This means that the environments are well documented, open to the customer, and portable to other AWS Specialists.

TechBento's founders have over a decade experience with law office case/practice management software.  After a year of working Amazon EC2 operations for a global publishing automation company, we launched CloudBento.
